Neuro-affirming therapy, training and consultation

Neuro-affirming | Queer- affirming | Intersectional and Trauma-informed | Therapist & Trainer | Creating Neuro-Affirming Spaces Where Being Divergent is Beautiful | Helping Neurodivergent People feel truly seen & heard.

At Nurturing Neurodiversity, I offer an integrative, complementary (outside mainstream mental health), trauma-informed, intersectional-informed therapeutic experience grounded in my training as an Arts Therapist, Psychosocial Therapist, ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) specialist, and Autism specialist.

While we are all neurodiverse (as a group of people), not everyone is neurodivergent.  The neurodiversity paradigm rejects the medical approach of pathologising people and aims to ensure acceptance of people for who they are. There are many forms of neurodivergence; it is not a medical diagnosis. Some people who identify as neurodivergent may have an innate neurotype (present from birth) and/or acquired neurodivergence (resulting from trauma, illness, medical events, and environmental factors).

These examples are illustrative and do not account for all neurodivergent experiences:

DCD/Dyspraxia Dyscalculia Dyslexia ADHD Autism Tourette Syndrome High IQ Depression ● Complex PTSD ●  Brain Injury ● Long COVID  ●

Finding a professional who understands the neurodivergent experience can be an important step toward getting the right help. You are welcome at Nurturing Neurodiversity Netherlands, whatever your neuro-type is, and wherever you are in your journey. You may come to therapy with stories of grief, pain and suffering. Neuro-affirming therapy means you do not have to educate the therapist on what you need in therapy in order to be able to bring your life story. You bring your life story, and I will attune to your needs as a whole person.

Here are some fantastic videos on Neurodiversity from 10to3 in the UK:

The four core modalities of Nurturing Neurodiversity Netherlands

nummer-2    Neuro- affirming

To be neuro-affirming means embracing and acknowledging variations in learning and development, rather than subscribing to dominant deficit narratives.

nummer-2  Relationship

I value building a trusted relationship with my clients. To build that trust, I am committed to self-disclosure and will share (when appropriate) about myself to help convey humility, humanity and understanding.

nummer-3  Arts Therapy

Finding your words in therapy can feel hard at times. I incorporate creative methods of expression, such as writing, drawing, or role-play. This can be a helpful way to help a client find the right words and name the feelings and thoughts they are experiencing.

nummer-4    Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) empowers individuals to stay present and mindful. Through ACT, clients learn to observe their thoughts, feelings, and internal experiences without judgment. This approach fosters greater psychological flexibility, allowing people to build lives that reflect their deepest values and what truly matters to them.
